2 Chronicles 36:4-8
- After taking Jehoahaz into exile, the king of Egypt made his brother
Eliakim the king of Judah. (v. 4)
- More about King Jehoiakim can be found in Jeremiah, which deals with
his reign in more detail than the Chronicler does.
- The king of Egypt renamed Eliakim (God raises up) to Jehoiakim.
(Jehovah raises up) (v. 4)
- The name change probably signified that Necco was willing to tolerate
the religion of the Jews. However, at the same time, it showed that
Necco had power over the king - thus the people - becuase he had the
power to change his name.
- Jehoiakim was twenty-five when he became king and he reigned for
eleven years. (v. 5)
- Jehoiakim did evil in the eyes of the Lord. (v. 5)
- Nebuchadnezzar attacked Judah and brought Jehoiakim to Babylon in
shakles. (v. 6)
- Nebuchadnezzar also plundered the Temple. (v. 7)
